Farmapram is a benzodiazepine prescribed in Mexico to patients with anxiety and depression. The active ingredient in Farmapram is alprazolam, the U.S. generic version of Xanax. In the United States, Farmapram is sold as alprazolam, which earned it the nickname “Mexican Xanax.”
The main ingredient, alprazolam, activates the effects of Farmapram.
Alprazolam belongs to a group of drugs called benzodiazepines (Benzos). Benzodiazepines bind to a receptor in the central nervous system called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA-A). This action calms the nervous system, triggering a sedative and anti-anxiety effect.
To achieve these effects, physicians start their adult patients on a dosing schedule of 0.25 mg to 0.5 mg thrice daily.
